ABOUT

ME

My name is Iraida Llucià. I love painting and illustration.

In times of personal change, the opportunity to ask myself what to do presented itself. When I asked myself the classic question: “what would you choose to take with you to a dessert island”, my answer was wood planks, paint brushes and paint. Starting from zero gives you the chance to open yourself up to new things.

So I started to develop my own pictorial language, abstract representations that sprouted from my mind and needed a way out: harmless beasts, robust trees full of life, houses harbouring what lives within us, moons within easy reach, sweet fruits, birds and fish that surround us though we hardly see them. A whole wide world, the best of worlds, the world we already have; a world full of poetry and games.

When I paint, I feel I’m doing something important, honouring the marvellous and at the same time disquieting life which sustains us all.

For me, word and image go hand in hand.

When we pronounce a word, a magical process unchains itself to make a concept visible. This concept is integrated into the reality of the speaker and the listener, even if it represents an abstract or a new idea.

Likewise, an image is incorporated into reality when it is created and seen by others. In my paintings there isn’t a clear barrier separating reality and imagination (does it actually exist?). The images that come to me find their root in real sensations, not only in what I can observe with my eyes, and so they become very real to me.

I am delighted to find a connection with you through my paintings, to find a deep bond of mutual recognition that unites us.

Thanks a lot for being here!
